Nature List

A blog for my eyes only that happens to be available to everyone with internet

Month: May, 2014

Today was quite interesting. A bit overcast but beautiful nonetheless. Some highlights for today were the Ruby-crowned Kinglets displaying their ruby crowns, hearing for the first time this year, a vireo other than warbling. My assumption was a Red-eyed Vireo but it seemed a little slow kind of like a Blue-headed Vireo. So it isn’t quite confirmed. I tried chasing the song up a hill but to no avail. I heard my first Least Flycatchers of the season as well! Also, in the distance, I could’ve sworn I heard a Northern Saw-whet Owl.
Quite a few Yellow Warblers in abundance as well as the Western Wood Pewees! I managed to see at least three of them!

I was hoping to see/hear a Swainson’s Thrush as they are apparently supposed to be here by now. However, today was not the day.

It was a beautiful sunny day. Blue skies and the park was buzzing with life!
Warbling Vireos and Ruby-crowned Kinglets were in abundance. We also, saw Western Tanagers, Orange-crowned Warblers, White-throated Sparrows, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Rufous Hummingbirds, Dusky and Hammond’s Flycatchers, and American Robins. We heard a few Red-breast Nuthatches, quite a few Yellow Warblers, and perhaps my FOY MacGillivray’s Warbler! We didn’t manage to sight the one that was singing, however…

There are actually quite a few more species that I’ve seen throughout the first few months of the year…I’ll add them here, and try to backtrack to when they were seen. I can update accordingly…

I realize that this is not chronological thus far, so thankfully no one is interested in reading all of this and it is for my eyes only.

Introduction

This blog is meant to be boring for viewers, but it’s essentially a way for myself to keep track of birds and other cool nature things I’ve seen over this year and maybe even years to come. I want to build on my life list and although I haven’t kept dates of when I’ve seen different species, I’d like to start now. I have kept dates for a few species thus far so I guess I’ll post them and start from there. I think I’ll document in much more detail in the future, but for now, this is it. I’m not a photographer so there won’t be many pictures. However, I may steal some from the internet to perhaps even make this blog visually pleasing for myself.
